Song Circle

Facilitated By: Raffles

Thursdays
7:00-8:00 PM
April 9, 16, 23, 30

Singing is medicine. All of our ancestors were singers, and so are you. All abilities and disabilities are welcome.
Each week Raffles will offer songs of healing and grief and rising up for what’s good! … songs that affirm our rightful place in the natural world, and call forward a more just and beautiful future.

We’ll learn them and sing them together, without stress about “getting it right”, but with some amount of nerdery mixed in, to keep leveling up our practices of embodied singing, nuanced musicality, and spell-casting.

About Raffles

Raffles (they/them) is a singer, dancer and theatermaker raised back and forth between NYC and the Mohicantuk (Hudson) Valley.

Raffles has performed internationally with the English National Opera in London; Loom Ensemble’s annual performance season in Dubai, and with the Art Monastery Project in Italy, Belgium, Stockholm, and Berlin. New York highlights include Lincoln Center with Urban Research Theatre, New York Philharmonic with Constellation Chor, BAM with Meredith Monk, and La MaMa with Loom Ensemble.

Raffles is particularly proud of their role in devising, producing and performing in “Bootstraps: An American Fable” which toured the US in 2017 and 2018, combining dance-theater and anti-racism workshops; and more recently Loom Ensemble’s “Twenty Twenty / Twenty Twenty-One” and “Tell Me How You Breathe” which included participatory rituals for grieving racist police violence, reconnecting with our ancestors, and guiding audiences to imagine their own role in cocreating a more just future.

“500-hour” certified Yoga Teacher, and dharma student since 2010, Raffles believes in the artist as a whole human, and advocates for integrity in all the little choices of daily life.
