Authentic Movement Spring Series Registration

Authentic Movement is a contemplative dance practice rooted in expressive movement therapy, where participants explore the unconscious mind through the moving body. The practice brings focus to the relationship between a mover and a witness, fostering states of compassion, curiosity, and non-judgment. With eyes closed, the mover listens inwardly to impulses, sensations, feelings, and images, allowing their inner experience to guide self-directed movement. The witness cultivates open receptivity, non-judgment, and inner awareness as they hold space for the mover’s expression. In this exploration of “seeing and being seen,” participants deepen their sense of trust and self-awareness through the practice of Authentic Movement.

Movement Invitations that Sidestep Translation Registration

How do we move?

Each class will open with guided improvisation and movement explorations inspired by Gaga movement language and the circular, spiraling patterns of qigong and contemporary dance. In what follows, we will experiment with creating movement scores that invite others into our unique movement styles. Together, we will explore how invitations—rather than prescriptions—can convey the feeling of movement and spark new discoveries in our own bodies, asking ultimately how we might become more together.

Tender Attention to the Wild Unknown: A Journey from Sensation to Improvisation and Voice through Body-Mind Centering and Action Theater

This workshop will begin with a Body-Mind Centering warm up that will heighten participants’ senses and prepare them for rigorous use of their body and voice in Action Theater. We’ll explore our kinesthetic senses, and our auditory, visual, and vocal systems. The second half of the workshop will invite participants to continue on the path from sensation to perception, and further out into the imagination—following this awareness to its wildest, most expressive states. Together, we will create a nurturing environment to move through any blockages that may inhibit vocal expression, fostering greater confidence, creativity, and freedom in both movement and speech.
