Class Description:

This Contact Improvisation class invites dancers into a mindful, relational approach to movement where body awareness, emotional attunement, and mindsight come together in dynamic physical dialogue. Through guided explorations, participants will develop sensitivity to internal sensations, emotional states, and the subtle cues of their partners, using awareness as the foundation for safe, expressive weight sharing. Class practices emphasize awareness, helping dancers track both their own experience, and the experience of others in real time. We will explore how emotions live in the body and how to express, hold, transform and communicate emotions through movement. Partner work will progressively introduce weight, sharing counter, balance, and lifts, with an emphasis on listening, consent, and attunement rather than validation seeking, performance, desire and energy consumption. Dancers will learn how presence, alignment, and clarity of intention create ease and trust, allowing lifts and shared momentum to emerge organically. Open to all levels, this class offers a supportive environment to deepen connection, expand interpersonal safety and experience Contact Improvisation as a practice of embodied empathy, awareness, and coregulation.
